expert's opinions

At peak, this beauty displayed its non-stop, sexy, kirsch notes on the nose and palate, accompanied by a cornucopia of fresh herbs and spice. Elegant, refined, medium-bodied and fresh, if you have a bottle, pop a cork as it's not going to improve. Whilst the wine lacks the depth and power of the best vintages, the Rayas style is unmistakable here. For a Rayas with bottle-age, this is probably the best deal out there.

Falstaff April - 2012
Falstaff
Medium carmine garnet, orange rim lightening, watery edge. Nuances of dried herbs, ripe cherry fruit, delicate floral elements, quite charming bouquet, with air some mint and pine oil. Juicy, some dried fruit, present tannins that appear somewhat angular, dark chocolate note, good length, overall presents a somewhat rustic picture.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
A sleeper of the vintage, the 1994 offers up a fragrant perfume of kirsch, raspberries, leather, and tobacco in a medium to full-bodied, surprisingly authoritative style with outstanding depth, ripeness, and length.

Château Rayas
Château Rayas

The Rayas Estate is located in the south of the Rhône Valley, in the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. Founded by Albert Reynaud and passed down through four generations, this discreet family estate spans only 10 hectares and has established itself as a major reference for great Rhône wines.

Long managed by Emmanuel Reynaud, who recently passed away, the estate today perpetuates his legacy and singular vision of wine. The Reynaud family is also behind Domaine des Tours and Château de Fonsalette. At Rayas, Grenache is the sole grape variety for red wines, while white wines are made from Grenache and Clairette, in a style marked by finesse, purity and expression of terroir.

Among Rayas' emblematic vintages are notably Rayas 1990, Rayas 2006, Rayas 2007, Rayas 2009 and Rayas 1989, essential references of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
