Dark-ruby in color, with wonderful berry, cherry and grapey aromas. Full-bodied, loads of tannins and tons of fruit. Still closed; needs time.

Jean-Marc Quarin August - 1997
Jean-Marc Quarin
Dark red color. Good intensity. Homogeneous. Slight evolution. Brilliant. Beautiful. Nose of medium intensity. Discreet. Quite fresh. Smoky. On swirling becomes very smoky. Fine and fruity. Supple and smooth attack, developing on a rounded structure, with quite fine mouthfeel. A slight loosening in mid-palate and that's a pity. The tannic evolution is well balanced, at once soft, firm and very flavorful. The wine goes down easily. Good aromatic persistence. Can be drunk now or kept. Note a slight acidity in the finish.

This offers tobacco, spice, and cigar ash notes in the perfume. Light bodied and with a short, cherry filled finish, this wine needs to be opened in the near future. With the Culvieres as the new owners (the same family who owns Clos Fourtet in St. Emilion), I expect Poujeaux will begin producing much better wines than this one.
