Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
A nice surprise, the blend of truffle, herbs, tobacco, cedar and plums gets you going. Silky, soft, but not quite refined on the palate, the wine has enough sweet, red pit fruits remaining to go another decade, if well stored.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
I have always admired the 1966 Pichon Lalande and here, served blind next to its Latour counterpart, it continues to show well. The nose is deceptively Right Bank in style thanks to the relatively high Merlot content. A mixture of decayed red and black fruit intermix with black truffle, sage and thyme, fully mature but with no sign of oxidation. Not powerful, but content to just unfurl at its own pace. The palate has a sweet core of fruit, more youthful than I remember it, elegant in style and never intense. Its freshness is wonderful, hint of clove emerging towards that linear and straight-laced finish.

Deep ruby. Lovely plush, mellow nose and very complete on the palate at first even if the fruit began to fade after 15 minutes or so. I could imagine this being enormously pleasurable in full bottles now.

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse De Lalande

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, located in Pauillac in the heart of the Médoc, is one of the most emblematic Second Grand Cru Classé of the 1855 classification. Founded in the 17th century and permanently marked by the figure of Virginie de Pichon Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande, the estate has established itself today as an essential reference among the great wines of Bordeaux.

Located on deep gravel ridges resting on a clay-marl base, in close proximity to the Gironde estuary, the vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir and a microclimate particularly favourable to the ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine combines power, precision and elegance, in a style renowned for its finesse and ageing potential.

Owned by the Rouzaud family since 2007, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande continues a demanding quality policy, committed to an environmental approach certified HVE and in conversion to organic farming since 2021. Parcel vinification and the use of a gravity-fed vat room preserve the pure expression of the Pauillac terroir.

Vintages such as Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1982, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1986, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1994, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1996, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2000, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2009, illustrate the consistent quality and remarkable ageing potential of this great Pauillac wine, particularly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors of rare wines.
