James Suckling July - 2025
James Suckling
This dry, bright Champagne has aromas of bread dough, grapefruit, berries and walnuts. It's sleek and medium-bodied with fine bubbles and a nicely dry and crisp finish. 66% pinot noir, 32% chardonnay and 2% meunier. From base vintage 2021, with 56% reserve wines using a perpetual blend of of wines started in 1946. Zero dosage. Drink now.

Although it is described as non dosé, bone dry, rich fruits more than compensate. The result is a ripe Champagne, with an intense floral aroma and tangy, mineral and tight citrus fruits. Drink the wine now.

Wine Spectator December - 2024
Wine Spectator
A pretty waft of apple blossoms leads to flavors of ripe black currant, walnut oil, toast and plump golden raisin. Firm and fresh, this is a well-meshed version, with a pronounced vein of minerality that comes to the foreground on the finish. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier.

Andreas Larsson - Tasted
Bright light golden with a copper hue and lively young bubbles. Pure and precise with pinot dominated aromas of plum, red berries with ripe citrus, chalk and fresh butter. Good bite on the palate bone dry with a crisp acidity finely balancing the sweet fruit character, mildly spicy with gingerbread notes, some autolytic complexity and creaminess with a pure and long finish.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
It bursts from the glass with aromas evocative of green apple, lemon leaf and delicate early-blooming white flowers. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied and vibrant, driven by incisive acidity and concluding with a chalky, bone-dry finish. Unsurprisingly, with a base year such as this and in the absence of dosage, it presents a more tightly woven profile than its Brut counterpart—an expression likely to resonate more deeply with purists.

Jancis Robinson July - 2024
Jancis Robinson
Two-thirds Pinot Noir, less than one-third Chardonnay and a little Pinot Meunier. Based on 2019 with 34% perpetual reserve wines. Bright fruit with real energy and creamy texture even if without massive potential longevity.

Philipponnat

Founded in Aÿ as early as 1522 and based in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, the Philipponnat house crafts vinous and precise Champagnes, dominated by Pinot Noir, from the Champagne appellation and Grand Cru classified terroirs. Its monopole Clos des Goisses, the first clos vinified separately in the region, encapsulates its spirit: terroir, structure and long ageing potential.

True to its perpetual reserve and measured dosage, the house produces gastronomic cuvées that stand the test of time. Among its great years, 1996, the 2002 vintage, the 2008 wine, 2015 and the 2020 wine illustrate the balance between vinosity and freshness.
