Jean-Marc Quarin June - 2003
Jean-Marc Quarin
Bordeaux red colour. Medium intensity in the Margaux style. Nose of medium intensity. Fine. Floral. Fresh. Fruity. Animal notes when swirled. Discreet. A little less substantial than the others, this wine shows finely woven and fruity character. But the wood plays too important a role. And ultimately the wine finishes marked by wood, even if it remains aromatic.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Ducru-Beaucaillou experienced an uncharacteristically shaky period between 1986 and 1990. The winemaking did not suffer, but the inconsistency from bottle to bottle (too many wines exhibited a musty, wet cardboard-like aroma), is history. The construction of a new cellar and replacement of every barrel has guaranteed the conditions necessary to produce trouble free wines. Ducru is on a roll, with fine efforts over recent vintages, including an exceptional 1994, spectacular 1995, and what looks to be an equally profound, super-concentrated 1996. Spicy red and blackcurrant aromas compete with peppery, cedary notes. Sweet, rich, ripe fruit hits the palate in a medium-bodied, soft, pretty style. A tannic finish does not detract from the precocious, flattering personality of this elegant, herbaceous but delicious, medium-bodied, supple Ducru-Beaucaillou. A very good effort for the vintage.

Château Ducru Beaucaillou
Château Ducru Beaucaillou

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is one of the most illustrious estates in the Saint-Julien appellation, classified as Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Located on the deep gravel soils overlooking the Gironde estuary, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou owes its name to the "beautiful pebbles", these characteristic quartz stones that ensure perfect drainage and ideal thermal retention, essential conditions for the ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Founded in the 18th century and acquired by the Borie family in 1941, the estate is now run by Bruno-Eugène Borie, who has profoundly strengthened the stylistic identity of this cru. Château Ducru-Beaucaillou has established itself as one of the most refined signatures of Saint-Julien, sought after for the precision of its aging, the exceptional quality of its fruit and the nobility of its tannins.

The vineyard sits on Günzian gravel ridges among the finest in the Médoc. Dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and complemented by Merlot, the blend produces wines of great depth, combining density, freshness and structure. The impeccably controlled aging in French oak barrels supports the structure without masking the expression of the terroir.

Vintages such as Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 1982, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 1995, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 1996, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 2005, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 2003 or Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 2014 illustrate the consistency and exceptional aging potential of the estate, now regarded as a major reference among the great collectible wines of Bordeaux.
