Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The Climens 2001 has always possessed a deliriously complex and intense bouquet that is beautifully defined: dried quince and marmalade, honeycomb and antique furniture. There is an inchoate, resinous element that will surely surface over the next decade or so. This is a bouquet that demands attention and in this blind tasting, sticks out from the crowd, a sui generis. Since I last tasted it, the palate has opened up and is beginning to pump on all cylinders. It is wonderfully balanced with fabulous intensity and a long, citrus-tinged finish that is utterly beguiling. As Kate Bush once sang: "Wow".

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Bright, crisp, fresh and packed with layer after layer of sweet, honeyed, yellow tropical fruits, flowers, spice, vanilla, apricots and honey. Racy, long and intense, this is so good now, it is impossible not to grab a second glass.

So massive and unctuous yet with great freshness. Wonderful stuff with a slightly burnt edge. Great complexity. Long. Bravo!

Loads of orange peel and dried apricots on the nose here. Full-bodied, with a wild and exciting palate. Sweet yet racy. Electrifying. Great class and elegance. One of the best Climens I have tasted.

From half bottle. Dense aroma profile with saffron spice, fruit of quince, melons and dried apricots as well as honey and fine bees wax. Beautifully aged eve if I would have fancied one or two more aromas in the profile. The palate matches a certain viscosity with fresh acids, a super long finish and more honey notes. At the beginning of a very long drinking window. For me Climens and Suduiraut 2001 both continue to deliver on a par, but can't quite match the layers and precision of Yquem.

Falstaff March - 2006

Bright green-gold. In the nose fine citrus zest, coconut, pleasant wood support, delicate yeast touch. On the palate powerful, well-concealed alcohol component, delicately caramelised, yellow fruits in the aftertaste. Good development potential, needs another two to three years.

They couldn't be more different, the full-bodied 1999 and this complete, complex class wine. Power is balanced by the greatest freshness, density, complexity, structure and length... Magnificent.

Château Climens
Château Climens is a 30-hectare wine estate located in Barsac, Gironde. In the Barsac AOC, it is classified as a Premier Grand Cru in the official 1855 Bordeaux classification. The 30-hectare continuous vineyard sits on red clay-sand soil over limestone. The grape variety is 100% Sémillon (one of the few single-variety vineyards in the region), with a density of 6,600 vines/ha and an average vine age of 35 years. Climens produces only sweet white wine. Climens' yields are particularly low, averaging 7 hl/ha, or even 4 hl/ha in difficult years, allowing for exceptional quality and concentration. The estate produces a second wine called Cyprès de Climens or Les Cyprès de Climens, in memory of a curious tradition: when boats paid their toll (right of passage) on the Ciron, they were given a blue cypress branch to prove payment. Outstanding vintages: 1971, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 2001, 2005. Overall, the wines produced at Climens are consistently high-flying and of high quality. This is due to the high-quality production standards demanded by Bérénice Lurton and her team.
