Château Climens

Château Climens is a 30-hectare wine estate located in Barsac in the Gironde. In the Barsac AOC, it is classified as a Premier Cru Classé in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification. The Climens vineyard, covering 30 hectares in a single block, sits on red clay-sand soil over limestone bedrock. The grape variety is 100% Semillon (which makes it one of the rare single-variety vineyards in the region). Climens produces only sweet white wine. The estate produces a second wine 'Cyprès de Climens' or Les Cyprès de Climens in memory of a curious tradition: when boats paid their customs duty (right of passage) on the Ciron river, they were given a blue cypress branch as proof of payment.

The greatest vintages of the Château are: 1959 and the 1971 vintage. We also recommend the excellent Château Climens 1929, Climens 1947, Climens 1988 or the 1989 and 1990 vintages. Finally, we recommend the Climens 2001.
