CHÂTEAU DE BEAUCASTEL Hommage à Jacques Perrin 1995

Tasting notes: A superb dark ruby color characterizes this wine that is both massive and intense. It develops magnificent aromas of black cherry, blackcurrant, spices, leather and game. Very rich in the mouth, it has a spectacular aging capacity, at least ten years.

Anecdote about this cuvée: Produced only in great vintages, the Hommage à Jacques Perrin cuvée from Château de Beaucastel is produced from very old Mourvèdre vines, producing small quantities of intensely ripe and concentrated fruit.

Grape variety / Blend: 70% Mourvèdre, 15% Syrah, 10% Grenache and 5% Counoise) (variations are possible from one vintage to another)

Maturity: Must be drunk

Food and Wine Pairing: Lamb

Herbal, scented and meaty. More fruit aroma than on the 2001. Delicate and scented on the mid palate. Very very fine tannins. Lovely harmony and definitely à point . Silky and long.

Very young, with tightly drawn tannins still covering the black cherry, raspberry and sweet cigar smoke notes. Plenty of guts, with beef bouillon, mesquite, game, hot stones, graphite and spice notes coursing through the finish. Should be very long-lived.--1995 Châteauneuf-du-Pape retrospective. Drink now through 2025.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Coming from a vintage that featured a hot summer followed by substantial rain in September that forced vignerons to wait until late September/early October to harvest, the 1995 Châteauneuf du Pape Hommage À Jacques Perrin (70% Mourvedre, 15% Syrah, 10% Grenache, and 5% Counoise) has the classic Beaucastel funk, with lots of olive tapenade, gamey meat, truffle and sweet currant and cherry fruit. Still structured and firm on the palate, it opens up nicely in the glass, has impressive concentration and a spine of both acidity and tannin that should keep it evolving nicely for another decade or so.

Château de Beaucastel
Château de Beaucastel

Château de Beaucastel is a wine estate located in Courthezon, a commune near Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Vaucluse department. The château is a reference in Rhône wines. Château de Beaucastel extends over more than 130 hectares of vineyards. Three-quarters are cultivated under the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation and the rest under the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation.

In keeping with winemaking traditions, the château carries out its harvest exclusively by hand. The grapes are carefully sorted upon arrival at the cellar, with only the finest grapes selected for vinification.

All grape varieties are vinified separately, each having its own character and aromas: Grenache and Cinsault provide warmth, colour and smoothness, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Muscardin and Vaccarèse contribute solidity, longevity and a very distinct taste, and finally Counoise and Picpoul bring freshness and unique bouquets of aromas.

The meticulous work of the Perrin family differs each year and determines the quality, originality and specificity of each vintage. This marriage is the culmination of months of effort, care, and loving attention at every moment. It is the expression of a terroir in a specific year.
