Wine Enthusiast January - 2005

The aromas of powerful new wood follow through on this wine with dark tannins and a feeling of brooding power. Acidity gives the wine a lift to finish.

Tom Cannavan January - 2005

Deep, glossy purple/black. A smoky warmth, almost nuttiness on the nose. Fruit is quite subdued. The palate is mellow and quite dark and composed, with a cherry and plumskin quality of bittersweet fruit, and a very dry tannic extract. There's a juiciness about the cherry acidity, and it is quite harmonious, but the dryness of tannins and spicy, mellow oak on the finish rather dominate for now.

Medium bodied, with fresh cassis, tobacco and cedar wood aromas, the tannins are fine, with no harshness, but there is an herbal, olive note in the finish some tasters will like more than others.

Pale rim. Rich crimson. Sweet start and a bit tough and tart on the end.

Château Batailley
Château Batailley

The Château Batailley is a franch estate of Bordeaux. It is a fifth classified growths of Medoc classification of 1855. Château Batailley is one of the jewels of the  Castéja and Borie-Manoux families. The property name comes from the battle that took place in 1453 on the vineyards and at the Chateau. It was during the100 Year War.

During this war, the French took back Château Latour which was occupied by the English and which marked the end of British rule in the Aquitaine region. In the seventeenth century, vineyards were planted on this land rich in history. The Château park was designed in the nineteenth century by Napoléon III's landscape architect. Batailley is a classic Pauillac, well built with a dark ruby color, and pronounced notes of cassis.

The best vintages wines of Château Batailley are 1959, and 1982 wines. 2000 vintage wines and wines of 2009 are excellent. Finally, the grands crus classés of 1990 and grands crus of 2005 are exceptional.
