This is another sleeper of the vintage from Hubert de Boüard. The 2006 reminds me somewhat of the 2001, perhaps not quite as lush at this state, but underrated as a vintage at this property. Dense purple, with sweet boysenberry, blueberry and black-raspberry fruit, liquorice, chocolate and a touch of barbecue smoke, a bit of graphite also makes an appearance in this full-bodied, opulent wine that seems to be maturing much like the 2001. Drink it over the next 20-25 years.

Château informations
Château Angelus was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé A of Saint-Emilion in 2012 (previously it was 1er grand cru classé B since 1954). It shares the top of the Saint Emilion Wines classification with Châteaux Ausone, Cheval Blanc and Pavie.
The Château Angelus vineyard is located at the foot of the slope, on a steep south-facing hillside. The clay-limestone soil rests on a limestone base. The grape varieties consist of approximately 51% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. In some years, such as 2003, the proportion of Cabernet Franc even exceeds that of Merlot! The wine matures for 18 to 22 months in new barrels. Since 2018, Château Angelus has begun its conversion to organic farming, which should be completed by 2023.
The greatest vintages of Château Angelus are 1988, 1989, the 1990 vintage, 1993 and the 1994 vintage.
