The origin of the Château's name comes from the estate's legend. Indeed, in the past, an old woman used to trot to the nearest stagecoach stop to get the latest news. A 15th-century parchment in Gascon thus attests to the use of this name, Trotte Vieille. This is how the origin of the estate came about. This story is also found in the name of the second wine of this Grand Cru Classé B, "La Vieille Dame de Trotte Vieille" (The Old Lady of Trotte Vieille).
