Poured from a magnum directly, the 2003 Echézeaux Grand Cru from Mugneret-Gibourg reflects the tumult of that hot season. It has a gregarious bouquet with raisin, cassis and blackberry cloaked in glycerin. It is attractive, albeit not reflective of the refined aromatics that would distinguish a cooler season. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and commendable acidity. Copious kirsch and crushed strawberry notes, with a sweet and seductive blood orange seam throughout. And yet it is missing some tension on the pastille-like finish, thus depriving it of the intellect other vintages would show. Enjoy this over the next 5 or 6 years.

Mid garnet. Aromatic, rather unusual for a 2003. Nicely balanced! Juice and freshness. Grainy and fun, with lift and no excess of anything, just slightly riper fruit than usual. Very clean, long finish. Well done, ladies!
