Shows the heat of the vintage but still maintains a succulent edge to the mix of plum, blackberry and fig preserve flavors. A light apple wood frame holds the finish, revealing a flash of tobacco and fresh earth, but this has pushed the fruit to the fore and is totally accessible now.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
A beauty of cassis, plum, tobacco leaf and spice, this dark plum/purple-hued, medium to full-bodied 2003 reveals sweet, round, cassis flavors. It has reached full maturity, but shows no signs of decline, and should continue to hold at this plateau for another decade. Although the 2003 is not up to the perfect levels of the 2009 and 2010, it is unquestionably a noteworthy success in a vintage that did not favor Pessac-Leognan.

Gently entering its state of decline. With air, the wine loses its freshness and soft textures. Whilst there is still some dark red cherries, blackberry, truffle and smoke character remaining, this is best consumed sooner than later.

Jean-Marc Quarin February - 2005

Intense colour. Very, very fruity nose. Subtle notes of plum brandy and crème brûlée. Very original. Smooth and tight on the entry, it develops richly, with a certain elegance and a fruity, vanilla and savoury aromatic presence. Creamy to the touch and without excess, it finishes with a taste of blackcurrant, liquorice, smoke and a structure without any tannic stiffness. This subtle texture seems to me to be one of the most meticulous ever seen on this cru. Good length. A success.

(10.2010) Deep crimson. Very round with fully resolved tannins. Much easier and possibly more worked than most with some Graves fragrance

Château Smith Haut Lafitte
Château Smith Haut Lafitte

Château Smith Haut-Lafitte is a 68-hectare wine estate located in Martillac, Gironde. Situated in the Pessac-Léognan AOC, it is classified as a grand cru in the Graves wine classification. The terroir consists of Günzian gravel, with vines averaging 30 years old. For red wines, the grape composition is 34% Merlot, 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. For white wines, it's 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Sauvignon Gris, and 5% Sémillon. The planting density ranges from 7,500 to 10,000 vines per hectare. The vineyard covers 56 hectares, with 45 hectares for red wine and 11 hectares for white wine. Without a doubt, the exemplary elegance of Smith Haut Lafitte's red wines and the sophisticated bouquet of its world-renowned white wine deserve this daily care.
