Wine Spectator
(03.2003) Another forgotten cru classé that delivers. Aromatic red, with liquorice, violet and berry character. Medium-bodied, with medium tannins and a caressing finish. Lovely. Best after 2006.

(01.2005) Light, herbal nose. Chewy tannins after a very mellifluous palate. Thick and dense and sturdy. A safe bet if not too expensive, but never top rank.

Château Marquis D'Alesme
Château Marquis D'Alesme
Château Marquis d'Alesme Becker, Margaux, 3rd Classified Growth. Château Marquis d'Alesme Becker is a 15-hectare wine estate located in Margaux, Gironde. In the Margaux AOC, it is classified as a third growth in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification. The vineyard's creation dates back to 1585. It bears the name of an ancient family from the region. The first registration of the property dates from 1616. During the First Empire, the estate was sold to a Dutch merchant, Jean Bekker Terrlink. The latter's germanized name was added to that of the founder during the 1855 Médoc wine classification: thus Château Marquis d'Alesme Becker was listed as a 3rd classified growth. In 1938, Edmond Ritz, a mining engineer from Alsace, bought the property, which was later inherited by his grandson, Jean Claude Zuger. Hubert Perrodo (1944-2006), a French industrialist and owner of the cru bourgeois Château Labégorce in Margaux, acquired the wine estate in 2006. Initially, a new team was assembled and significant work was undertaken: planting, trellising, drainage, and a return to traditional plowing. Everything is being done to ensure the renaissance and future of a great wine, respecting its traditions, enhancing its terroir, and modernizing its production facilities. Since Hubert Perrodo's death in 2006, the Hubert Perrodo Family's properties in Margaux have been managed by Nathalie Perrodo.
