expert's opinions

What we generally like about Evangile is not the opulence (like 2010), but its sensuality, and that comes through very beautifully in the 2011. Perfectly drawn, with polish and finesse, freshness and opulence, elegance and harmony, thoroughly delightful.

Vertdevin January - 2020
Vertdevin
The nose is elegant, fruity and offers beautiful freshness, lovely power, concentration as well as a very fine grain. It reveals notes of blackberry, ripe wild strawberry and subtle hints of grey pepper, undergrowth as well as very fine notes of nutmeg. The palate is fruity, balanced and offers good definition, a beautiful tangy structure, tension as well as lovely fineness of grain. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fleshy/juicy blackberry, very ripe blackcurrant and subtle hints of undergrowth combined with fine notes of Tonka bean, clove, undergrowth and sweet spices. The tannins are elegant, supple and offer a very discreet chew. Good length.

Jeannie Cho Lee April - 2012

This Pomerol has a gorgeous aroma of ripe plums and violets with seductive flavours on the palate. There is good density and concentration here with plush, ripe tannins. The wine is 94% Merlot. Thorough, strict selection made phenomenal wine in 2011. The alcohol is less than in 2010 and 2009, but still almost 14%. Long finish with ability to age for decades. This property increased by 6 hectares but the total quantity produced in 2011 was the same as in 2012 with severe selection. The 6 ha was purchased just before harvest in 2011.

Evangile (L')
The grand vin of Château L'Evangile is described in an old edition of "Grands vins de Bordeaux" (Dussaut editions) as "...full, elegant wines, endowed with incomparable bouquet and finesse". For many enthusiasts, this subtle and elegant quality is indeed the hallmark of this wine. Grape varieties blended in the wine: 80 to 90% Merlot, 10 to 20% Cabernet Franc Duration of aging in oak barrels: 18 months, of which 70% are new barrels. Average annual production: 2,000 to 3,000 cases per year. After a cold and wet winter, high temperatures in March and April favoured the start of vegetation. Then, a long grey, temperate period without excess continued until August, requiring increased technical monitoring. The good weather stabilised in early September and eventually favoured a good and calm ripening of the grapes. This vintage is characterised by a 13-moon year and a longer than normal vegetative cycle. Discreet nose. Very round on the palate, full attack, generous mid-palate. Finish with a solid texture. Very well-integrated oak.
