Soft and pleasant, with nice violet-tinged currant and plum aromas and flavors that persist into a long, elegant finish.
In some ways, it is a shame that the 1989 La Dominique is such a show-stopping effort for it overwhelms the 1988. The 1988 is a more typical (or as the Bordelais would have you believe, more classic) effort, with an alluring and precocious, big bouquet of plummy fruit and sweet vanillin-scented oak. This wine offers exuberantly rich, fruity, opulent flavors, medium to full body, and a long, satiny finish.
