Rather luscious colour. Sweet and still fresh. Deep ruby but with lots of development at the rim. Lovely sweetness and completeness. Long and fresh. Bravo! Firm. Complete. Very long. Still vigorous. Very sweet but dusty. Gunpowder. Admirably youthful even if not as subtle as some of the wines in this flight.

Dark colour, of medium intensity. Vermilion hues. Very aromatic nose, fruity, smoky, with a hint of alcohol. Caressing on the entry, with a slightly citrus flavour in the mid-palate, the wine scores points on the finish thanks to its surprisingly pronounced aromatic dimension.

Tom Cannavan
Deep ruby turning quite brown at the rim. A lot of luscious, minty, plummy fruit on the nose and a bit of cedary wood. Extremely firm on the palate, not giving. Very chewy texture, muscular, but really needs more fruit. The tannin is fine and ripe, but totally swamps the finish leaving the impression of a slightly clumsy, alcohol and spice character. Disappointing. I wouldn't buy it hoping it would improve significantly.

Château La Conseillante

The name La Conseillante first appeared in the mid-18th Century. It was inherited from an influential person who ran the property almost 300 years ago: Catherine Conseillan.

On the Pomerol plateau with a clay-gravel soil with iron deposits in the subsoil, the wine comes from a grape variety that certainly values Merlot (70%), but Cabernet Franc, at 25%, gives the wines a particular freshness, complexity and richness.

La Conseillante with its purple capsule recalls the characteristic perfume of the growth. These elements, chosen in 1871 by the Nicolas brothers, remain elegantly modern at the dawn of the 21st Century. Since that year, the fifth generation of the Nicolas family has been managing the Château.
