Château Rauzan Gassies is a Bordeaux wine estate located in Margaux and Cantenac in the Gironde department. Situated close to Château Rauzan Ségla, with which it was once linked, the Rauzan Gassies estate boasts a large vineyard of 28 hectares composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Petit Verdot (5%). The wine is classified as a second growth in the official 1855 classification. The estate also produces a second wine called 'Chevalier de Rauzan-Gassies'. Château Rauzan Gassies had four owners before Paul Quié took over in 1946. His son succeeded him in 1968, and today it is his grandchildren, Jean-Philippe and Anne-Françoise Quié, who manage the estate.
The best vintages of the Château are 1945, 1953, the 1955 vintage and the 1959 vintage. Finally, we recommend the Rauzan Gassies 1989 or the Château Rauzan Gassies 2005.

While the noble house of Chevalier de Gassies is one of the oldest in Margaux, the viticultural history of Château Rauzan-Gassies began in the 18th century. This château was created by Monsieur Pierre Desmezureres De Rauzan, a merchant who was also the tenant farmer of the noble house of Latour. This position allowed him to collect seigneurial rights and increase his own estate. He bought numerous plots from neighboring farmers and thus, in about twenty years at the end of the 17th century, he created two beautiful vineyards, that of Rauzan-Gassies and also that of Pichon-Longueville, two future classified growths. Rauzan-Gassies wines have always enjoyed a certain reputation in England, thanks to Monsieur de Rauzan's approach of personally selling his harvests aboard a ship he chartered to the port of London. Monsieur de Rauzan, who later became Counselor to the Parliament of Bordeaux, left his mark on the estate's label in the form of wings protecting grape clusters. During the 1855 classification, Rauzan Gassies wines were classified as Second Growths.
It was in 1946 that Mr. Paul Quie, a certified wine broker in Bercy (Wine trading center for Paris and its region) whose father was already in the profession, bought this vineyard thus following numerous predecessors, such as Mr. Rhoné-Péraire who, in the 19th century, had a particularly positive impact on the reputation of the growth. In 1968, his son Jean Michel took over the management of the estate, he has been assisted since 1995 by Mr. Jean-Louis Camp, and since 2001 by his children, Anne-Françoise and Jean-Philippe Quie.
