Clos Saint Jean

The Clos Saint Jean Estate is a wine estate located in the Southern Rhône in the commune of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Clos Saint Jean was established in the early 1900s. Under the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, Clos Saint-Jean produces 5 red wine cuvées and one white. The Clos Saint-Jean vineyard spans over 40 hectares, with about 20 hectares on the famous La Crau plateau. Only 1 hectare is dedicated to white Rhône wines using Grenache Blanc, Clairette, and Roussanne grape varieties.

The red Clos Saint Jean is concentrated and full-bodied while remaining very balanced. A generous and ample wine that reveals its full potential with time. The famous Clos Saint Jean Deus Ex Machina cuvée refers to the estate's spirit of innovation and adaptation. The "Deus ex Machina" cuvée has won over wine experts, notably with Parker's 100/100 score across several vintages.

The famous Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf Combe des Fous (red) cuvée is a tribute to Guy Maurel, who persisted in planting vines in a valley, despite the advice of many of his peers. Considered "crazy" by all his neighbors, he stood by his choice and today it is one of the estate's flagship wines.

Clos Saint Jean's reputation speaks for itself. The estate has already enjoyed international success. Indeed, in the 1930s, Clos Saint Jean wines were exported worldwide, particularly to the United States, featuring in New York's finest restaurants as soon as Prohibition ended.
