CLOS SAINT JEAN Deus ex Machina 2018
- New
Domaine Clos Saint Jean is a wine estate located in the Southern Rhône in the commune of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Created in the early 1900s, Clos Saint Jean was born. In the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, Clos Saint-Jean produces 5 vintages of red wines and a white. The Clos Saint-Jean vineyard covers more than 40 hectares, including approximately 20 hectares on the famous Crau plateau. Only 1 hectare is devoted to white Rhône wines with the Grenache blanc, Clairette and Roussanne grape varieties.
The Clos Saint Jean red is concentrated and massive and still very balanced. A full and generous wine that reveals its full potential over time. The famous Clos Saint Jean Deus Ex Machina cuvée refers to the property's spirit of innovation and adaptation. The "Deus ex Machina" cuvée has won over wine experts, notably with the Parker score of 100/100 over several vintages.

The famous Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf Combe des Fous (red) vintage is a tribute to Guy Maurel, who ultimately persisted in planting vines on a valley, despite the advice of many of his peers. Called "mad" by all his neighbors, he assumed responsibility for his choice and today it is one of the estate's flagship vintages.
The reputation of Clos Saint Jean is well established. The estate has already enjoyed international success. In fact, in the 1930s, Clos Saint Jean wines were exported around the world, particularly to the United States, in the finest restaurants in New York as soon as Prohibition ended.
