Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Usseglio Pierre Cuvée de Mon Aïeul 2007: The 2007 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée de Mon Aieul is just beginning to shed a tiny bit of its abundant baby fat that has been at the forefront since its release. Yet it pulls no punches in its exciting aromas and flavours of kirsch liqueur, roasted garrigue, black raspberries, incense, charcuterie, and liquorice, and is about as quintessential Grenache as you can get. Excitingly concentrated, intense, perfumed, and layered with incredible balance, this full-bodied beauty should reach its peak in 2-3 years and keep for at least a decade afterwards.

Domaine Courbis Les Eygats 2010: Flirting with perfection, the 2010 Cornas Les Eygats reveals a fabulous bouquet of incense, subtle smoke, black truffle, pen ink, blackberry and cassis. Massive with soft tannins and an unreal skyscraper-like texture on the mid-palate, this broad and tasty classic Cornas should drink well for 25+ years.

Clos Saint Jean Deus Ex Machina 2017: With its more muted oak and layers of complexity, the 2017 Châteauneuf du Pape Deus Ex Machina is my favourite release here this year. Layers of dried spice accentuate raspberries and cherries in this full-bodied, rich, velvety wine. It's more complex and fuller than the Combe des Fous or the Sancto Santorum, longer on the finish, and supremely elegant.
