The 4 best vintages of Château Margaux

1- The 1989 vintage

Tasted by Jeannie Cho Lee : 96/100

Drink with pleasure now, this 1989 is at its ideal peak. A profusion of dried flowers and red fruits is followed by a silky textured mouth with firm tannins and good freshness. Delicate, layered and long.

2- The 1990 vintage

margaux 1990

Tasted by Robert Parker : 100/100

The 1990 Chateau Margaux really begins to come into its own at 31 years old, rising from the glass with aromas of blackberries and cassis mixed with licorice, cedar and violet, framed by subtle notes of vanilla and spice. Full-bodied, deep and multi-dimensional, it is seamless and complete, its velvety tannins and ripe acids fully enveloped in a sumptuous yet vibrant core of fruit. This is a particularly spectacular and fleshy interpretation of Margaux, but it remains impeccably balanced and has decades of longevity ahead of it.

3- The 1996 vintage

Tasted by Adrian Van Velsen : 100/100

Ripe Bordeaux red, deep color. Black fruity, smoky, bacon on the nose, incredibly deep and expansive, becomes more floral with air, the senses rejoice, we want to dive in, so much finesse already on the nose, a hit. Juicy and fresh at the start, concentrated but light as a feather, everything is in its place here, a bundle of power on the high wire, a beautiful balance and great complexity, can Bordeaux do better?

4- The 2002 vintage

Tasted by Robert Parker : 95/100

Very refined on the nose… definitely Premier Cru quality with a lovely floral fragrance. Margaux? Black cherries, a touch of cassis, violet and wild hedgerow. Superb clarity. Succulent and ripe entry, very pure and very harmonious with filigree tannins and a natural and graceful finish that betrays its power.
