millésime 1947

Throughout France the 1947 vintage is fantastic. Everywhere the wine is exceptional. It is remarkable in longevity as well as in power. Since 1985, the grapes have not been so rich in sugar.

Bordeaux

The year is very warm allowing the good development of the vine. 1947 is one of the vintages of the century. The best wines are grandiose, of an opulence never found in other vintages. The color is intense with an aromatic power of candied fruits, overripe notes, a richness, an opulence on the nose and a smoothness on the palate. It is like eating fresh black fruits. The Château Cheval Blanc 1947 is monumental combining power and finesse, complexity and delicacy. The Château Margaux 1947 is powerful, concentrated, of a deep color and a slightly warm nose. It is impressive. The sweet wines stand out just as much. Château d’Yquem 1947 is a monument in itself. The nose is of fig and candied fruit. It is ample, fat, beautiful and well constructed.

Bourgogne

The 1947 vintage is the fourth great year of the century. The weather is hot and dry, the harvests are superb and the grapes are full of sugar. Wines are very good, ripe and can be kept well and can still be good today. They are even compared to the 1929 vintage. For the whites, the natural alcohol content is spectacular. In Chablis Grand Cru it reaches 15.4°. The wines are rich and round. Although many were tasted young, they are still delicious today.

Champagne

The harvest is very early: it begins on September 5, something never seen since 1893. The yield is rather low because of the lack of rain but the grapes are very beautiful and all the houses decide to vintage. Wines are rich, charming and delicately fruity. They keep very well for today’s tastings.

Rhône

The weather is superb for this year 1947. Grapes are perfectly ripe with a high natural alcohol content. The complicated economic situation does not allow for good sales. However, the wines are beautiful, generous and charming, well-constructed and have a very long aging potential. They are still pleasant to discover to this day.

Loire

The vintage is superb throughout the region. It is equally breathtaking in whites as in reds, in dry as in sweet, and has a aging potential that could even be said to be endless. The color is barely tiled. Notes of game, blackcurrant and vanilla are both on the nose and in the mouth.
