Great winesVintages Haut Brion Blanc 1955, a very well kept secret… by SoDivin 25 July 2024 25 July 2024 2.1K views 2.1K Here is the very example of a very confidential wine: Haut Brion Blanc. Can we then imagine the rarity of a Haut Brion Blanc 1955… With less than 3 hectares, production is between 450 and 650 cases. A drop compared to the rest of the production of Château Haut Brion, 1er Cru Classé from Pessac Léognan. “The crazy dream of the Larrieu, owners in the 19th century: obtaining the aromatic fullness of a sweet wine in a dry wine!” Months ago we had the opportunity to acquire 15 bottles of Haut Brion Blanc 1955. To date, we cannot find any others in the world. These bottles, already rare to begin with, are probably miracles of the passing of time. After much research, I have not been able to find the slightest comment about this wine which ends up seeming to me to be a closely guarded secret. Suffice to say that the rarity of this wine and the atypical promise of Larrieu tended to arouse our curiosity, we had to know. During a family dinner, we opened a bottle of Top Brion Blanc 1955 to finally lift the veil on this hovering mystery. And the surprise was total. Even before opening the bottle, the amber color made us believe it was a gourmet wine. At the opening, the nose is certainly reminiscent of a Sauternes. Notes of dried fruits, apricot. In the mouth the wine is dense, thick. On the attack, the wine is slightly smoky with a nice freshness. The surprise comes when we don’t find the sweetness that we might have imagined and yet the wine knows how to be delicious. Then, the mouth fills the palate with elegance with notes of dried fruits. The finish is very long, on the grain. This wine is definitely fine, subtle and silky. This experience will probably remain unique but we will treasure this memory…92/100.
