Jacques Peters says he believes this to be a great Grande Dame, and certainly the best since the 1988. Disgorged in July 2000, it is 62.5% Pinot Noir, 37.5% Chardonnay, and all grapes come from Grands Crus vineyards. This pale gold wine is tinged with emerald, and has an immediately complex nose of apple, lightly-bruised pear skins, yeast, herbs and nutty, almond notes. The mousse is rolling and mouth-filling, and the palate has a full, powerful flavour. There are notes of bacon fat, fig, peach and pear. Plenty of substance and complexity here. The finish is already long, with integrated, elegant acidity. One for the long haul and excellent.

A '95 with attitude. Firm, focused and full of biscuit, citrus and hazelnut flavors backed by vivid acidity, though there's enough creaminess to keep everything in line. Good, nutty finish.

Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Champagne house founded in 1772. Its headquarters are in Reims. It belongs to the luxury group LVMH. Its production is 8 million bottles. It looks like a brand model, very involved in the viticulture. In search of excellence and innovation, in 1816 Madame Clicquot invented the riddling table wines in order to obtain more clear and quality previously unmatched. His contemporaries nicknamed him soon, "the Grande Dame Champagne", a tribute to his courage and determination.
