expert's opinions

Floral, honeyed though pale and on the lean side. More recently: distinctive fragrance, soft peach and apricot with flavour to match. Fleshy yet delicate.

Delicate sauternes aromas, but without volatility and very little botrytis. Fresh and with far less sweetness than many of its congeners. A subtle and toned down version.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
I would have expected Suduiraut to be outstanding in 1986, but it is not. It is very good, but this wine should have been a classic. Plump, rich, honeyed, pineapple, coconut, and buttery fruit flavors abound in this full-bodied, rich wine that falls just short of being profound. It is muscular and rich, but it is missing an element of complexity that I found in many other 1986s. Also, is it possible that the 1986 Suduiraut has less botrytis than the other top examples from this vintage?

Château Suduiraut
Château Suduiraut

Château Suduiraut is a Bordeaux wine estate covering 200 hectares, including 92 hectares of vineyards in the commune of Preignac on soil composed mainly of sandy-clay gravel, which produces a sweet white wine. Premier cru classé of Sauternes, it is considered by many as one of the best Sauternes.

The wines of Château Suduiraut are among the greatest Sauternes. Their longevity is exceptional. As they age, the aromas of candied fruits slowly take over from the citrus notes found in the early years. The estate recommends decanting old vintages to enhance the fragrances. The Château also produces a second wine: Castelnau de Suduiraut.
