Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
With the price of Rayas being what it is today, I am not sure how much more often I will see these wines. What a treat! The nose, with its flowers, wild strawberry, kirsch, peppery cherry, and mild herbal slants hit it just right. But it was on the palate, with its purity, silky textures, length, and lift that stole the show. Wines like this should be tasted at least once so wine lovers know what the benchmark wines taste like.

Bright ruby, youthful shine. The nose is pure Rayas, very deep, smoky, fragrant, floral, with concentrated red currant, wild strawberry but also dark berry fruit, an incredible amount of freshness is at play here, this is a wine for sniffing par excellence. The palate soft, opulently beginning, sensational concentration, again red and dark currants, plus hay, grasses, dried flowers, a bundle of power with dancing beauty, clearly defined body, incredibly crisp fruit, wow, this is great cinema. A great Châteauneuf with plenty of reserves. Now until 2040+

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
(2-2016) Showing the more structured, savoury and austere side of the vintage, the 2005 Rayas Chateauneuf du Pape will be 20-30 year wine. Offering up lots of darker fruits, gunpowder, ground pepper, truffles and liquorice, it has full-bodied richness, a beautiful texture and no shortage of tannin or acid, both of which make themselves known on the finish. This is a wine to hide in the cellar for at least another 4-5 years, and it will still be going strong in 2030+. I don't see this matching the 1995 or 2007, but it's not far off.

Falstaff April - 2012
Falstaff
Medium carmine garnet colour with ochre reflections, broad watery rim. Cherry confit with smoky undertones, dark berries, dried herbs, delicate ethereal notes of pine and mint. Complex, very good structure, ripe cherries, very balanced, very elegant and harmonious, already accessible, with a Burgundian impression, very seductive, good ageing potential

(9-2008) Really pure, tangy and superracy, with fresh, bright minerality rippling through the red cherry, red currant, fresh garrigue, shiso leaf and liquorice notes. The long, finely tuned finish lingers on and on, with very fine acidity carrying it all.

Château Rayas
Château Rayas

The Rayas Estate is located in the south of the Rhône Valley, in the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. Founded by Albert Reynaud and passed down through four generations, this discreet family estate spans only 10 hectares and has established itself as a major reference for great Rhône wines.

Long managed by Emmanuel Reynaud, who recently passed away, the estate today perpetuates his legacy and singular vision of wine. The Reynaud family is also behind Domaine des Tours and Château de Fonsalette. At Rayas, Grenache is the sole grape variety for red wines, while white wines are made from Grenache and Clairette, in a style marked by finesse, purity and expression of terroir.

Among Rayas' emblematic vintages are notably Rayas 1990, Rayas 2006, Rayas 2007, Rayas 2009 and Rayas 1989, essential references of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
