Jean-Marc Quarin September - 2003
Jean-Marc Quarin
Red colour. Evolved. Medium intensity. Nose of medium intensity. Fruity. Ripe. Blackcurrant. Vanilla. Tar on swirling. Rich, full and juicy wine, that's the noble aspect! Beautiful complex and flavourful persistence. Here is a beautiful fine wine that doesn't show its age. It was vinified by a famous personality in the Médoc. Who?

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tasted at the Fine Wine Experience's Pichon-Lalande vertical in London. This has a very expressive nose, a touch of greenness but ebullient black fruits, tar, graphite and cedar all with very fine definition. The palate is medium-bodied, quite sweet and silky on the entry with good acidity, notes of black cherries, iodine and an almost sorbet like character towards the finish that shows a surprising amount of glycerine. This is certainly a great success for the vintage, kudos to the late-Michel Delon for fashioning such great wines in modest growing seasons. Drink now-2025. Tasted December 2008.

Cedary, correct; sweet mid-palate, but not rich or convincing enough (1997). Surprisingly deep; good rich bouquet but disappointing. Raw finish.

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse De Lalande

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, located in Pauillac in the heart of the Médoc, is one of the most emblematic Second Grand Cru Classé of the 1855 classification. Founded in the 17th century and permanently marked by the figure of Virginie de Pichon Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande, the estate has established itself today as an essential reference among the great wines of Bordeaux.

Located on deep gravel ridges resting on a clay-marl base, in close proximity to the Gironde estuary, the vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir and a microclimate particularly favourable to the ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine combines power, precision and elegance, in a style renowned for its finesse and ageing potential.

Owned by the Rouzaud family since 2007, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande continues a demanding quality policy, committed to an environmental approach certified HVE and in conversion to organic farming since 2021. Parcel vinification and the use of a gravity-fed vat room preserve the pure expression of the Pauillac terroir.

Vintages such as Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1982, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1986, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1994, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1996, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2000, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2009, illustrate the consistent quality and remarkable ageing potential of this great Pauillac wine, particularly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors of rare wines.
