Jean-Marc Quarin February - 2008
Jean-Marc Quarin
Beautiful, slightly evolved colour. Fine, fruity, fresh and complex nose when swirling the glass. Touch of caramel and smoke. Beautiful fleshy attack developing velvety. Juicy, flavoursome, aromatic, the wine advances with good body and a smoky aroma. Structured finish, long and still tannic but refined. One can start drinking it.

Old school, leather, mushrooms, wet earth, wood. All tertiary, no fruit aromas. Very good, but not excellent. A little bit one-dimensional

Fully mature, with a smoky, thyme, earth, lit cigar, leafy forest and cassis filled nose. There is a slight sense of rusticity on the medium bodied, palate that alternates between fresh cassis and cranberry fruits in the finish.

Very light nose. Very dusty tannins becoming even more evident as the fruit fades. But there is a convincing middle to this wine. Quite a kick. Mellifluous texture.

Château Pape Clement

Château Pape Clément is one of the major historic estates of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Its history begins at the end of the 13th century, when Bertrand de Goth, future Pope Clement V, bequeathed his vineyard to the Archbishopric of Bordeaux. This direct link to the papacy confers upon the estate a unique patrimonial depth, making Château Pape Clément one of the oldest growths in Bordeaux still in operation.

Classified as Grand Cru Classé de Graves in the official 1953 classification (revised in 1959), Château Pape Clément has established itself as an essential reference among the great wines of Pessac-Léognan, both in red and white. The vineyard, located at the gates of Bordeaux, rests on deep gravel soils mixed with clay and sand, fostering a refined and complex expression of Bordeaux grape varieties.

The grape variety is predominantly based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for the reds, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, whilst the whites rely on Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The wines of Château Pape Clément are distinguished by their aromatic intensity, their silky texture and their balance between power and elegance.

Renowned for their great ageing potential, the estate's wines traverse the decades with ease. Iconic vintages such as Pape Clément 2005, Pape Clément 2001, Pape Clément 1998, Pape Clément 2000, Pape Clément blanc 2012, Pape Clément 2010 or Pape Clément 2003 illustrate the qualitative consistency and the singular position of Château Pape Clément among the great collectible wines of Bordeaux.
