Marvellous. Its peaty fruity nose impresses. The palate is all velvety pulp, caressing, impossible to spit out and above all enhanced by an unexpected fresh nuance (great soils always compensate for the climatic effect).

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
. This complex, dark garnetplum-tinged wine reveals some bricking at the edge, and its beautiful, smoky, meaty nose exhibits notions of sweet currants, black cherries, and liquorice. Medium to full-bodied and fleshy with low acidity, sweet tannin, and an expansive mouthfeel with no hard edges, it is a fully mature 1990 that should drink well for another decade. In my opinion, the Pape Clement vintages from 1998 onwards are even more impressive and deeper. Moreover, they possess greater longevity.

Smoke, tobacco and smoked dark, red fruits sums this up nicely. Tasting and smelling like a cigar, burning cedar wood, smoked meats, earth dark, red fruits also made an appearance. The texture has started taking on the patina of age, but be forewarned, the cigar and smoke elements carry through from the nose and the palate. So, you have to like that character. The table was mixed on the wine. But I liked it. Fully mature, popped and poured, decanting was not needed here.

Very dark ruby colour. On the nose, notes of raspberry, flowers, and minerals are revealed. Full-bodied, with firm tannins, pronounced fruitiness, and a medium finish. A muscular wine. Drink now. A retrospective of the 1990 Bordeaux. Best consumed after 2005.

Château Pape Clement

Château Pape Clément is one of the major historic estates of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Its history begins at the end of the 13th century, when Bertrand de Goth, future Pope Clement V, bequeathed his vineyard to the Archbishopric of Bordeaux. This direct link to the papacy confers upon the estate a unique patrimonial depth, making Château Pape Clément one of the oldest growths in Bordeaux still in operation.

Classified as Grand Cru Classé de Graves in the official 1953 classification (revised in 1959), Château Pape Clément has established itself as an essential reference among the great wines of Pessac-Léognan, both in red and white. The vineyard, located at the gates of Bordeaux, rests on deep gravel soils mixed with clay and sand, fostering a refined and complex expression of Bordeaux grape varieties.

The grape variety is predominantly based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for the reds, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, whilst the whites rely on Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The wines of Château Pape Clément are distinguished by their aromatic intensity, their silky texture and their balance between power and elegance.

Renowned for their great ageing potential, the estate's wines traverse the decades with ease. Iconic vintages such as Pape Clément 2005, Pape Clément 2001, Pape Clément 1998, Pape Clément 2000, Pape Clément blanc 2012, Pape Clément 2010 or Pape Clément 2003 illustrate the qualitative consistency and the singular position of Château Pape Clément among the great collectible wines of Bordeaux.
