Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
(08-2012) One of the wines of the vintage, the 2000 has barely budged in its evolution since it was bottled and released in 2002. After ten years in bottle, it still reveals a dense opaque purple color along with a potentially sensational bouquet of blueberries, black currants, graphite, asphalt and background oak. Extremely powerful, full-bodied and superbly concentrated with good acidity and high but round tannins, this massive La Mission-Haut-Brion should take its place among this estate’s most hallowed vintages when it hits full maturity in another one to two decades. I was surprised by just how youthful this wine tasted at age 12. If tasted blind, I would have guessed it to be around 4 to 5 years old. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2050.

Mission Haut Brion
Mission Haut Brion

The Château La Mission Haut-Brion, is a vineyard located in Talence in Gironde. Located in AOC Pessac-Léognan, it is classified Grand Cru in the classification of wines of Graves. The estate was bought in 1983 by the Dillon family, owner of Haut Brion. It is undoubtedly this propensity to give everything at once that distinguishes the wines of La Mission Haut-Brion and seduces many tasters. It is also the exacerbated expression of the soil of Graves of Pessac. In the course of its breeding and getting older, the Mission Haut-Brion is always generous, it is committed totally permanently. The hedonistic side of the Mission Haut-Brion and the permanence of these qualities are features that make it very attractive. La Chapelle de la Mission Haut Brion is the second wine of the domain. The greatest vintages: 20001994199319901989198819861985198219811979, 1978, 19751964, 1961, 19591955195319521950, 1949, 194819471945, 1929.
