Tasted blind and decanted. Three more years and settling surely have dealt well with this wine which is beginning to look more and more like its real potential. Large, red color, dark, intense, lively, light changes. Very nice nose, not yet fully open, but very distinguished, fresh, fine, floral, subtle. The entrance in the mouth is a caress. The wine develops very, very slowly, occupying the middle palate perfectly. Extremely aromatic, luscious, very typical Margaux, it ends with very refined tannins. Classy!

(7-2003) Muscular yet classy. Breathtaking aromas of black licorice, violets, berry and cherry, with light hints of spices and minerals. It's all there in the nose. Full-bodied, with an ultrafine tannin structure and a finish that goes on for minutes. This may turn out even better than 1995 due to its layers and layers of fine tannins and fruit but I can't give more than 100 points.

(6-2010) Absolutely compelling in two tastings of this vintage, the 2000 Margaux is composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. The extraordinary seductiveness, complex aromatics, and purity it exhibits lead me to believe it has reached its window of full maturity. Medium-bodied, with layers of concentration, stunning blue, red, and black fruits intermixed with spring flowers, a subtle dosage of new oak, and a distinctive personality that is elegant while at the same time powerful and substantial, this is a multi-dimensional wine that was extremely approachable and drinkable in both tastings I had of it. The color remains a healthy, even opaque bluishpurple, but there is no reason to hesitate to drink it. It should evolve for another 30-40 years, so there is no hurry either.

A privilege to bear the name of its appellation, for Chateau Margaux there is no doubt ample justification. For several centuries this Premier Cru has expressed the highest degree of quality of exceptional terroir patiently assembled by several generations of owners. Maintained and harvested exclusively by hand with extreme care, the 78 hectares of vines (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) derive their wealth deep in the soil which is clayey gravelly and particularly dense and thick. The fermentation in oak vats, after which the wine is strictly selected, follows 18 to 24 months in new oak barrels. A masterpiece among Bordeaux, the best according to some, Château Margaux reveals the delicate taste and opulence, depth and complexity, and exudes a rare elegance of rose, violet, black fruit, suspended by tight tannins that require patient aging before the wine fully expresses itself. The château also produces a second wine, Pavillon Rouge de Château Margaux, and a dry white wine, Pavillon Blanc de Château Margaux.
