La Revue du Vin de France
Very large bottle of rare intensity of matter. With a superb colour, it opens with an expression of menthol, liquorice and black fruits. The tannins are still structured, but fine and extracted with precision. Still tight on the finish, but with great length, this is a great stylised wine.

Right from the early days of tasting in spring 2001, this was going to be one of the stars of the vintage. And a star it remains. There is big, ripe fruit, with solid, ageworthy tannins. It may not be as powerful as some of the blockbusters of the vintage, but it is certainly more opulent, less classical than Léoville-Barton can sometimes be.

Léoville-Barton has a serious, compact, muscular, deeply-set quality. It has notes of leather, cedar and polished wood, also a smoky element. Really deep and complex. Serious and muscular on the palate too, with plenty of power and grip and a substantial weight of fruit. Great structure and balance. Excellent/Outstanding.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
This is a behemoth – dense, highly extracted, very tannic, broodingly backward, with a dense purple color and very little evolution since it was bottled 8 years ago. Wonderfully sweet cedar and fruitcake notes are intermixed with hints of creme de cassis, licorice, and earthy forest floor. It is full-bodied and tannic, with everything in place, but like so many wines that come from Leoville Barton, it makes a mockery of many modern-day consumers wanting a wine for immediate gratification. Those who bought it should continue to exercise patience and be proud to own a wonderful classic with five decades of longevity ahead of it.

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
Youthful ruby, no signs of age. Top nose, spicy, dark fruity, leather, tea, pepper. On the palate taut, concentrated, top structure, powerful and simultaneously elegant, the tannins are still present, the acidity feels fresh, lends drive. Very good length on the finish. A wine that needs some air to fully open up. Decant. Now until 2034+

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
On the firm, tannic, stoic side, the wine remains stubbornly youthful. Even at 20, the tannins are strict. Once the tannins subside, there is a wealth of concentrated, ripe, juicy, fresh, crisp Cabernet Sauvignon with real staying power. But this wine demands at least another decade in the cellar before it moves into its prime time drinking window. Those that prefer old-school classic Bordeaux should be all over this wine.

Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate watery rim. Fine herbal spice, ripe plums, a subtle hint of goudron, candied orange zest. Complex, juicy, already well matured, finesse-rich acid arc, cherries and sour cherries on the finish, has length, offers a versatile drinking pleasure

Dark crimson. Very solid and savoury on the nose. Essence of St James's Street?! Lots of mass here and something really very promising even if it is far from its full realisation. Bravo!

Château Leoville Barton
Château Leoville Barton
Château Léoville Barton is a wine estate located in the heart of Saint-Julien, in the Gironde department. Benefiting from the appellation of its commune, it is classified as a Second Grand Cru in the 1855 classification. The 45-hectare Leoville Barton vineyard is planted with 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, on a marvellous terroir renowned as the best in the world for vines, and benefiting from ideal climatological conditions. Ageing: 18 to 20 months in oak barrels, on average 60% new Due to the absence of a château on this terroir, the wine is traditionally aged in the cellars of its sister estate, Langoa-Barton, which it regularly outclasses despite identical grape varieties and vinification. Very well-balanced, this powerful and generous wine with character is considered one of the best Saint-Julien wines.
