CHÂTEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD Magnum 1999

A mild winter, followed by a beautiful spring, accelerated flowering, then from mid-August to the harvest, it was a heat wave.
This Premier Cru Classé is made up of the 4 grape varieties of the vineyard, which is rare but identical to the 1996 (Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot not often entering together in the Grand Vin).
Château Lafite Rothschild 1999 presents a nice woody and spicy nose, the mouth is structured, balanced with a nice rise in power, with a lot of elegance. The finish is all in length, with notes of very red and ripe fruits.

Jancis Robinson September - 2009

Transparent and lively. Fresh, appetising and already swallowable. So direct and frank! This is not one of Lafite's finest, most intense productions but it's well balanced and racy.

Subtle, delicate and pure. This wine was closed at first but started to open up after about 40 minutes in the glass. Wonderful purity, lifted flavors and elegance. A wine of breeding and class.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1999 Lafite Rothschild sports an engraved "1999" on the bottle along with an eclipse to mark that significant historical event of August, 1999. It is a quintessential offering from Lafite Rothschild. This prodigious wine is both elegant and intensely flavored, and almost diaphanous in its layers that unfold with no heaviness. An opaque rubypurple colour is accompanied by a complex bouquet of lead pencil, graphite, cedar, crème de cassis, toast, and vanilla. It is medium-bodied, with extravagant layers of richness yet little weight, and a finish that is all sweetness, ripeness, and harmony. This extraordinary Lafite increasingly appears to be a modern day clone of the majestic 1953. A mere one-third of the crop made it into the grand vin!

(2010) Delivers wonderful dark chocolate, with raspberry and currant undertones. Full-bodied, featuring soft, silky tannins and a long finish. Very tight still. Needs time. Very layered and holding back.

(2000) A deep, intense, convincing appearance with an almost opaque, velvety core; lovely, sweet, fleshy, youthful aroma; some sweetness, good mouthfeel and silky tannins. An attractive future.

Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Pauillac appellation, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, but it was in the 18th century that the château acquired international renown, particularly among European courts. In the 1855 classification, Château Lafite Rothschild was ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé, permanently establishing its status at the top of the Bordeaux hierarchy.

Owned by the Rothschild family since 1868, the estate rests on a terroir of fine, deep gravel, perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of Château Lafite Rothschild are distinguished by their finesse, aromatic precision and balance, favouring elegance and length over demonstrative power.

Emblematic vintages such as Château Lafite Rothschild 1945, Château Lafite Rothschild 1982, Château Lafite Rothschild 1986, Château Lafite Rothschild 1990, Château Lafite Rothschild 1996, Château Lafite Rothschild 2000 or Château Lafite Rothschild 2005 illustrate the estate's stylistic consistency and its ability to express the identity of Pauillac with clarity. Château Lafite Rothschild remains an essential reference for understanding the classical excellence of great Bordeaux wines.
