The 1986 is the best Filhot in my memory. The light golden colour is followed by a wine with a floral, pineapple, and tropical fruit-scented bouquet, medium body, as well as lovely, elegant, and brilliantly pure, botrytised, lively flavours. Just medium sweet, this wine could be served as an aperitif wine.

Has concentration and richness without a lot of fruit to balance the tobacco and toast aromas and flavours that dominate. With a touch of caramel on the finish, this could develop nicely with ageing through 1993-95.

Château Filhot is a Bordeaux wine estate covering 350 hectares, of which 62 hectares are vineyards, located in Sauternes in the Gironde department.
In the Sauternes AOC, it is classified as a Second Growth in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification.
On a soil of gravel, clay and sand resting on a limestone plateau, the grape variety composition of Château Filhot consists of 60% Sémillon, 36% Sauvignon and 4% Muscadelle. The vines of Château Filhot have an average age of 35 years and produce a yield of 15 to 18 hl/ha.
