Wine Spectator March - 2020
Wine Spectator
A stunner, with a seamless display of papaya, mango, coconut and green tea flavours tightly framed by singed hazelnut, green plum, jasmine and acacia notes. The long finish resonates with richness and purity, sailing on nearly endlessly due to the subtle tension rippling throughout. Will age glacially. Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Best from 2022 through 2050.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
A barrel sample, the 2016 de Fargues has a pale lemon colour and quite a profoundly scented nose at this nascent stage, with cedar, honey toast, orange marmalade and warm pineapple with hints of grapefruit and apricot preserves plus a spicy undercurrent. The palate sings of savoury and citrus layers with a decadent oiliness to the texture and fantastic freshness, finishing long.

Falstaff June - 2017

Medium green-yellow. Aromas of white fruit notes underlaid with fine oak spice, delicate blossom honey and peach in the background. On the palate juicy, very elegant, good balance, fine structure, pleasantly sweet honey, well balanced. It has a good future with definite ageing potential. It is expertly crafted.

Barrel Sample. This is an impressive wine, dominated by botrytis and rich honeyed flavors. It is concentrated, rip and dense, with a great future.

Opulent, lush, sweet, honeyed fruit coats your mouth. The acidity gives all that, sweet, ripe and over ripe fruits just about enough lift to make it interesting and delicious.

An intense de Fargues for a vintage that did not make concentrated botrytised Sauternes. The flavours are intense and balanced, with sweet ripe, dried apricots, honeysuckle and fresh acidity. There is good concentration in this wine with a fairly long finish.

Rarely tasted a Fargues of such class. Possesses elegance, density, flawlessly pure aromatics of dried apricots, great length; magnificent.

Big and round and satin-textured. Not quite enough zip but big and luscious if that is what you seek. Just a little pinched on the end. Still a little leathery. Needs time.

Château de Fargues
Château de Fargues has belonged to the same family for over half a millennium! It was in 1472 that this estate entered the Lur Saluces family patrimony. Château de Fargues, like great Sauternes, has a lifespan of several decades. Enthusiasts of candied notes will need to wait a good twenty years before taking the wines out of their cellar. Raised by the Lur Saluces family, like Château d'Yquem, this Sauternes embodies the rigour, passion and talent of great winemakers. The vines extend over about fifteen hectares of gravelly hillocks on a clay-gravel subsoil. Grape varieties: 80% Sémillon, 20% Sauvignon. Best years: 1945, 1947, 1949, 1955, 1959, 1962, 1967, 1971, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1995, 1996.
