Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Deeply coloured, like the hue of black plums, the nose is packed with smoke, truffle, incense, liquorice, dark chocolate and kirsch, there is a citrus note in the background that adds more complexity. Intensity and sexiness, velvet textured and sensuous, this is bottled decadence. The finish resists fading, serving up dark chocolate and ripe, sweet, juicy, black plums that expand for close to 60 seconds. Balanced, fresh, opulent, long and expansive, this is a contender for the best wine ever to come out of l'Evangile. If you want to know what spellbinding is, try this wine!

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 2015 L'Evangile is composed of 84% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc and was matured for 18 months in new oak barrels from Tonnellerie des Domaines (their own cooperage). Deep garnet-purple in colour, it absolutely leaps from the glass with complex, gregarious notes of blackberry pie, plum preserves, smoked meats/charcuterie, mocha and liquorice plus suggestions of cloves, black soil and unsmoked cigars. Full-bodied, rich, opulent and jaw-droppingly sexy, it has beautifully plush yet firm tannins with a lively backbone and a very long, spicy finish.

Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
An impressive wine that is showing the fleshy, concentrated, opulent side of the 2015 vintage, damson and black cherry given a kiss of oyster shell and sea spray salinity on the finish. Liquorice and cocoa bean add to the vintage signature, and this has decades ahead of it. Winemaker Jean-Pascal Vazart, DBR (Lafite) owners, close to 100% new oak for ageing.

Densely tannic, this wine displays considerable power and concentration. With 84% Merlot it exhibits jammy, rich black-plum and blackberry fruit and powerful tannins. This is an enormous wine, still very firm. Drink from 2026.

Wine Spectator March - 2018

Dark and dense, with a brooding personality, offering a mix of warm tobacco, espresso, dark earth, well-steeped blackcurrant and fig fruit flavours. Finishes with a broad loamy swath of fruit and tobacco, showing a strong echo of mocha and tar. This packs some serious punch. Best from 2024 through 2040.

Theatrical, it doesn't shy away from the opulence of the vintage! Here is a very textured wine, extremely smooth and flavoursome, which has achieved the most complete phenolic maturity, beguiling with the sweetness of its fruit, almost decadent in its candied edge but benefiting from real tannic and acidic structure.

Dark, blackish crimson. Heady and complete on the nose – lots of pleasure! Very sweet start – almost too much. And there's no shortage of alcohol. But it certainly delivers. Very intense.

Full-bodied, also quite voluptuous wine with tightly structured, juicy tannin, possesses fullness, depth and breed.

Evangile (L')
The grand vin of Château L'Evangile is described in an old edition of "Grands vins de Bordeaux" (Dussaut editions) as "...full, elegant wines, endowed with incomparable bouquet and finesse". For many enthusiasts, this subtle and elegant quality is indeed the hallmark of this wine. Grape varieties blended in the wine: 80 to 90% Merlot, 10 to 20% Cabernet Franc Duration of aging in oak barrels: 18 months, of which 70% are new barrels. Average annual production: 2,000 to 3,000 cases per year. After a cold and wet winter, high temperatures in March and April favoured the start of vegetation. Then, a long grey, temperate period without excess continued until August, requiring increased technical monitoring. The good weather stabilised in early September and eventually favoured a good and calm ripening of the grapes. This vintage is characterised by a 13-moon year and a longer than normal vegetative cycle. Discreet nose. Very round on the palate, full attack, generous mid-palate. Finish with a solid texture. Very well-integrated oak.
