Smooth easy wine especially for how old it is. Great dry cedar flair up front with subdued finish. Not as complex as I would expect for such an old wine, but still very good.

Jean-Marc Quarin April - 1996

Dark red colour. Good intensity. Purple. Medium intensity nose. Fresh. Quite fine. Fruity. Supple attack, developing on a round, fruity and caressing structure, which evolves by filling out in the mid-palate, on well-balanced tannins, slightly oaky, which melt on the finish with a cocoa nuance. A slight bitter note. Beautiful persistence. Lovely wine.

Durfort Viviens
Château DURFORT-VIVENS owes its name to the Durfort de Duras, a powerful family from the southwest who settled in Margaux in the 14th century. In 1824, Viscount de Vivens added his name to that of Durfort. The estate's reputation was at its peak: the 1844 vintage was sold at a higher price than all the Second Growths of the Margaux appellation. Thanks to Lucien Lurton, from 1961 onwards, the grand cru regained its noble status. His son, Gonzague Lurton, the current owner, has chosen to enhance the qualities of the mythical Margaux terroir a little more each year. The 1982, 1986, 1989 and 2001 vintages have received particularly good reviews from Wine Spectator magazine.
