Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Good luck finding bottles of Bernard's 2012 Chambertin Grand Cru, since he produced just a half-barrel from his 0.05-hectares of 98-year old vines this year – 114-litres to spread around the world. And that's including the stems of course. The whole cluster fruit makes a positive impression upon the aromatics, with very pure black fruit and wondrous mineralite. Sometimes I have found the single new barrel too dominant apropos this Chambertin but here it is perfectly in synch. The palate has a honeyed voluptuousness on the nose, extraordinarily concentration, cashmere tannins and an unbelievably intense finish that knocks you sideways. Drinking this wine will be like listening to Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" at full volume – and just as enjoyable.

They've been using a small parcel (537 sq m) of old vines since 1997 – 98 years old. 100% whole bunch. 100% new oak. The 2011 was aged in a 195-litre cask (even smaller in 2012) made specially for him each year. Smells awfully exciting and savoury. Lovely blend of richness and structure. Totally successful within his lights – very different from the casual laidbackness of Rousseau but its not overdone – just juicy, direct, attention grabbing ansd glamorous. Needs lots of time.

Domaine Bernard Dugat Py
Domaine Bernard Dugat Py

Dugat-Py is a family-owned estate. It has been established since the 17th century in Gevrey-Chambertin. Located in the heart of the great Burgundian terroirs, the estate strives to preserve the production methods and traditions of Burgundy wines. Thirteen generations of winemakers have accumulated unparalleled expertise and continuous work over more than 10 hectares. The uniqueness of Dugat-Py lies particularly in its vines, some of which are classified as "Très Vieilles Vignes" (Very Old Vines), with an average age of 65 years.

Among the numerous cuvées of this producer, we find in Burgundy Grand Cru: Chambertin "Très Vieilles Vignes", Mazis Chambertin "Très Vieilles Vignes", Charmes Chambertin "Vieilles Vignes" ... The Dugat-Py estate also produces Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Burgundy wines from numerous climats (Lavaux St-Jacques, Petite Chapelle, Les Corbeaux and many others).
