DOMAINE DE CHEVALIER 2006

Château note: Dark, intense, ruby on the disc, with a shiny black heart. Characteristic and complex flavours. Intensity, finesse and distinction. Fruity reminiscent of blackberry, cassis, black cherry and blueberry. Mineral flavors, smoky and fresh mint, express the gravelly soil mixed with clay. A fresh, sweet and fruity attack on the palate evolves on an important soft and high-end tannic structure. A smoky return on the palate, on liquorice, the resinous brings back fruity aromas to the nose. The tannins are very elegant. They bring the wine to a superb finish, delicate and balanced with good acidity.

Domaine de Chevalier's white has a reputation for long ageing, and that's the case with 2006. It is the structure that does it, very firm, almost tannic. But the fruit is also a star, ripe, dense, with green plum flavours and touches of spice. Give this at least 10 years.

Fine nose of ripe red fruits, discreet oak. Mature palate, full, generous with a beautiful delicate texture. Superb as usual. This is a very fine Pessac.

Classic Pessac-Léognan. Beautiful with distinct mineral notes. Shows a freshness that indicates a much younger wine than this 2006. Extremely elegant and long.

Falstaff January - 2023

Dark ruby, violet reflections, ochre-coloured rim lightening. Fine cassis nuances and fine oak notes, light liquorice notes and candied orange zest, a hint of dried plums reveals the hot summer. Juicy, medium complexity, black cherries, some plum confit, fine fruit expression, subtle acidity, mineral-salty, adheres well, a versatile food companion, but shows only medium length.

Tasted blind at Southwold '06 Bordeaux tasting. Initially this Domaine de Chevalier seems a little muddled on the nose, the fruit rather taciturn. But it unfurls nicely with attractive aromas of crushed stone, pine, smoke and truffle developing with aeration. Understated entry, fleshy blackberry fruit interlaced with liquorice and bilberry that leads to a modern, oaky, succulent finish that demonstrates good depth and persistency.

With the help of consultant Stephane Derenoncourt, this wine was produced in a lush style for the vintage. Lots of ripe black fruit, cassis, smoke and chocolate in the nose. Full bodied with a long, soft, dark berry finish. This was produced from a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 2.5% Petit Verdot, and 2.5% Cabernet Franc.

There's attractive blackberry and light vanilla, with a hint of liquorice. Full-bodied, with a caressing texture, very pretty fruit and notes of chocolate and liquorice.

Dark colour, slightly evolved. Nose of wet leather. Rather discreet. Caressing, savoury palate, evolving smoothly after the mid-palate on tannins still present. Normal length.
