Nice wine after opening the bottle. No longer a lot of fruit, but the typical Pauillac notes of graphite and tobacco box, in combination with some loamy and forest floor notes. Tannins and acid getting through, more unpleasantly the second and third day which suggests a more dumb phase of that wine.

In the 17th century, the Armailhacq brothers owned plots in Pauillac. It was in the 18th century that their descendants decided to plant vines there. Several Armailhacqs, whose spelling changed regularly, subsequently succeeded one another at the head of Château d'Armailhac.

In 1855, the château was classified as a fifth growth in the 1855 Médoc classification, under the name of Château Mouton d'Armailhacq. It was also during this period that Count de Ferrand became owner of the estate and created the limited company of Mouton d'Armailhacq estate. In 1989, Château d'Armailhac took the name by which it is known today, namely Château d'Armailhac. The label features a small Bacchus, in tribute to the vine. The 50 hectares of the estate, located between Châteaux Pontet-Canet and Mouton Rothschild, house in their outbuildings the technical and agricultural facilities necessary for the wine of Château d'Armailhac and that of Mouton Rothschild.
