2.5 ha, 100% Syrah. This is a selection of Chapoutier’s oldest Syrah vines planted in the birthplace of the Saint-Joseph appellation. Here the very poor, very stony granite soil (suggested by the name) is vital in restraining excessive vigour that can adversely affect the quality of less well-favoured Saint-Joseph vines.Dark crimson though it shades out to something less dramatic at the rim. Firm and tight on the nose but with a lovely sumptuous ripeness on the palate. Great texture: relatively smooth and polished. Should give a great deal of pleasure in the medium term.

M. Chapoutier
M. Chapoutier
Since 1808, the name Chapoutier has existed in the Rhone Valley. The distant ancestor Polydor Chapoutier began by buying some vines then becoming winemaker then grower, breeder and negociant. The pioneering spirit was already in the family.  Since 1990, Michel, is leading this exceptional company. A land rich in history and traditions. Passionate expression of soils, Michael gives his convictions ways to thrive. History of time. As is true for each element of nature. Time and the earth. Roots, the vine and the fruit. This is where the richness and generosity of the Maison M. Chapoutier begins.
