A beautiful autumn nose, of undergrowth, dead leaves. But it’s in the mouth that this wine expresses all of its pedigree. Robert Parker found it hard and tannic in his 1998 edition. This is no longer the case. The structure is silky, the tannins have perfectly melted, the balance is perfect. A pleasure to drink today.

The 1975 is still remarkably hard, tannic, and tough. It is rustic, full bodied, and muscular on the palate. The wine exhibits plenty of concentration, but the astringent, even severe tannins of the 1975 vintage continue to give rise to doubts about how well this wine is evolving.

Several notes, some quite recent. Soft ruby matching soft fruit. Fragrant. Fleshy. Surprisingly harmonious despite noticeable tannin.

Cantemerle
Théophile-Jean Dubos, husband of Charlotte Delbos, took over the estate 1892, with the help of his two sons Peter and Bernard. Theophilus Dubos was both owner and winemaker Cantemerle, vice president of the Union of classified growths of the Medoc and negociant at the company Dubos Brothers sold in 1914. Upon the death of Theophilus in 1905, Pierre and Bernard Dubos were co-owners of Cantemerle until 1923, when Peter became sole owner. During the war and the crisis years 1930-1940, numerous parcels of vines were uprooted from Cantemerle and since 1945, Cantemerle grew only about 25 hectares of vines which were maintained until 1981.Upon the death of Pierre Dubos in 1962, his youngest son Bertrand Clauzel became the sole manager and remained so until the sale of the estate in 1981 to Mutual Insurance Building and Public Works.
