Information on the vintage 1940 red Bordeaux:
Distinctly better than the 1939 but tough wartime conditions, shortage of labour and materials. Average-sized crop. Some attractive wines though uneven.

Château informations
Branaire Ducru
Banaire Ducru is on a parcel of 50 hectares located on the gravel soil of Beychevelle, Chateau Ducru-Branaire is now a landmark in St. Julien. The cru is prized for its pure red fruit. Its typical composition of Cabernet Sauvignon in the majority, and Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, opens with bright aromas of raspberry and blackberry, before becoming more complex on the palate with delicate nuances of mineral, pencil lead, smoke and spring flowers. This wine of exemplary quality differs from its famous neighbor by its originality: tasting reveals inevitably, under the red fruit and elegant tannins, a touch of spice and chocolate aroma rare in this appellation.
