Château Palmer, a renowned winery in the Margaux appellation in Gironde, is classified as a Third Growth according to the 1855 classification.

What makes Château Palmer so special is its unique style that transcends time. It doesn’t follow trends, but is rooted in its terroir and history to offer an incomparable tasting experience. To truly understand its timeless character, there’s nothing better than tasting it.

History and Heritage of Château Palmer

Château Palmer dates back to the 18th century with the Gasq family, and took its name in 1814 thanks to the British general Charles Palmer, who expanded the estate. In 1853, the Peireire brothers modernized the vineyard and built the current château. That same year, it was classified as a third grand cru classé.

Since 1938, several prominent Bordeaux families have owned the estate, including the Mähler-Besse and Sichel families today. Under the leadership of Thomas Duroux since 2004, the estate has embarked on a conversion to biodynamics, which was achieved in 2019.

Château Palmer combines tradition and innovation to produce exceptional wines, faithful to their unique terroir.

A unique philosophy and style, reflecting an exceptional terroir

“Making a great wine is putting a place in a glass.”

Thomas Duroux — Managing Director

At Château Palmer, the approach to viticulture is a true philosophy. Far from seeing only the vine, we consider it as one element of a vast ecosystem.

One of the pillars of biodynamics, adopted by the estate, is the understanding that every living being – from the soil microbiota to the vine itself, including the river, animals and humans – is interconnected.

The vineyard is seen as a holistic and circular farm, a living organism whose ultimate goal is self-sufficiency and balance. It’s about cultivating diversity so that each component nourishes the other, creating a healthy and resilient environment that is self-sufficient.

The art of winemaking at Château Palmer

“A great wine is based on a multitude of small details.” Nicolas Pescina, Cellar Technician

Under an elegant wooden frame, the vat room welcomes the freshly harvested grapes to begin their fermentation in temperature-controlled vats, allowing for precise vinification that respects each plot. Innovation also finds its place in an experimental vat room, where constant tests aim to better reveal the terroir while reducing the use of sulfur. Then, the wine continues its peaceful aging between barrels and tuns, for nearly two years, maturing slowly in the silence of the cellar before being bottled, ready to reveal all its finesse.

Château Palmer wines

This wine embodies the pure expression of its terroir, far from fads or passing trends. It draws its strength from the finesse of its Margaux origin, offering a silky texture, notes evoking noble leather, velvet, and a natural elegance. The balanced blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, enhanced with a hint of Petit Verdot, gives rise to a distinctive style. On the nose, a complex bouquet of flowers, ripe fruits and spices blossoms in a structure that is at once ample, fleshy and generous.
