Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1989 is inkier/purple in color than the 1990, with an extraordinarily sweet, rich personality offering up notes of smoke, melted licorice, black cherries, Asian spices, and cassis. Full-bodied and concentrated, it is one of the most powerful as well as highly extracted Beaucastels I have ever tasted. It requires another 3-4 years to reach its plateau of maturity, where it should remain for at least two decades.

Château de Beaucastel
Château de Beaucastel

Château de Beaucastel is a wine estate located in Courthezon, a commune near Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Vaucluse department. The château is a reference in Rhône wines. Château de Beaucastel extends over more than 130 hectares of vineyards. Three-quarters are cultivated under the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation and the rest under the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation.

In keeping with winemaking traditions, the château carries out its harvest exclusively by hand. The grapes are carefully sorted upon arrival at the cellar, with only the finest grapes selected for vinification.

All grape varieties are vinified separately, each having its own character and aromas: Grenache and Cinsault provide warmth, colour and smoothness, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Muscardin and Vaccarèse contribute solidity, longevity and a very distinct taste, and finally Counoise and Picpoul bring freshness and unique bouquets of aromas.

The meticulous work of the Perrin family differs each year and determines the quality, originality and specificity of each vintage. This marriage is the culmination of months of effort, care, and loving attention at every moment. It is the expression of a terroir in a specific year.
