Region Bordeaux

The wines under the Bordeaux appellation are appellation d‘origine contrôlée (AOC) wines that have been produced in the vineyards of Bordeaux. Because it is a generic name, it can concern different types of wines, whether they are red, dry white, white sweet or rosé. They just have to come from grapes grown in the department of the Gironde.

There are nearly 63 appellations but the main ones that make the Bordeaux wines famous in the world are located in the Médoc (Saint Estèphe, Pauillac, Saint Julien, Margaux), Graves (Pessac Léognan), Sauternes (Barsac, Sauternes) ) and the Libournais (Pomerol, Saint Emilion). The predominant grape varieties are Merlot, Cabernet Franc for red wines and Cabernet Sauvignon, Sémillon, Sauvignon, Muscadelle for white wines.

Over the years, rankings have been set up to prioritize the largest Châteaux: Crus Classés of Médoc, Grands Crus Classés of Saint Emilion, Crus Classés of Graves
