Appellation Romanée Conti

Romanée Conti appellation

Romanée Conti is a French designation of origin (AOC) which produces Burgundy grands crus. Operated as a monopoly by the Domaine de la Romanée Conti, the appellation was created in 1936. With a vineyard of only 1.6 hectares, the appellation produces Pinot Noir as the only grape variety. Its area and limits have remained virtually unchanged since its inception.

The soils of the vineyard are brown limestone and clay. Often presented as the most prestigious and expensive wine in the world, Romanée Conti is undoubtedly the most famous grand cru of Burgundy. The wines of the Romanée Conti appellation have a perfect structure, supple and tight, the wines are of great finesse. The grand cru of Romanée Conti is a unique wine. The wines can be kept very well: 10 to 20 years on average and up to more than 50 years in the cellar for exceptional vintages.

The vintages 1988, 1999, 2006 are very great vintages in Romanée Conti. The 1952, 1964, 1966, 1985 vintages, the 1989 wines, the 1996 grands crus and the 2002 vintage are excellent. Finally, the best vintages are 1961, 1978, the wines of 1990, grands crus of 1929, 1945 as well as the vintage 1971 and 2005.
