Appellation Clos de Vougeot
Clos de Vougeot appellation
Clos Vougeot is a French appellation d‘Origine Contrôlée (AOC), but also a Burgundy grand cru. Located in the Côte de Nuits wine region in Burgundy, the vineyard covers nearly 50 hectares. The vines are planted in enclosures separated by small walls erected since the 5th century. These separations allow the vineyard to be demarcated into around one hundred plots shared by more than 80 estates. Among them are the largest producers of Burgundy wines such as Domaine Gros, Domaine Méo-Camuzet, Noellat, Mugneret, Leroy, or even Domaine François Lamarche...
The wines of the Clos Vougeot appellation are robust and powerful. They have an intense red color with a floral bouquet on the palate with spring notes. Clos Vougeot wines have a long aging potential of 10 to 30 years for the best vintages. Clos Vougeot is known as much for its vineyard as for its castle. In the middle of these 50 hectares of vineyard, is the Château Clos Vougeot. Listed as a historic monument since 1949, this Renaissance building is now open to visitors for its wine museum.
