In the Bordeaux vineyards, the 1934 vintage was highly anticipated. A year with favorable climatic conditions that allowed a harvest in great quantity and quality. The red wines of Bordeaux are concentrated and very tannic.

In Sauternes, 1934 is a very good vintage, the best since 1929. The sweet wines are complex and very pleasant to drink.

In Burgundy, the summer was hot, and the harvest was early with impeccable berries. The harvest was substantial, but the quality was not always consistent. On the one hand, the wines are fruity, rich and of a beautiful color. On the other hand, the low-priced wines are of inferior quality, but of great rarity.

In the southern Rhône Valley, the 1934 vintage was exceptional. The vines took advantage of the summer heat which produced very good, rich and complete wines.

In Champagne, compared to other years, it is a very good vintage. However, Krug, Piper-Heidsieck and Veuve Clicquot have decided not to vintage this year.

  

Our advice for buying a 1934 wine

In this vintage in Bordeaux 1934, we recommend the appellations Margaux, Pauillac, Pomerol, Saint Emilion, Pessac Léognan and Saint Julien. The Château Cheval Blanc 1934 is rich and velvety. Other châteaux such as Mouton Rothschild 1934 and La Mission Haut Brion 1934 also offered very good wines.

In Sauternes, Chateau Suduiraut 1934, Chateau d‘Yquem 1934 and Chateau d‘Arche Lafaurie 1934 are excellent.

The white wines of Burgundy of 1934 are still very beautiful. We recommend the Meursault and Chablis appellations. For the reds, we recommend Clos des Lambreys 1934 and Grand-Echezeaux 1934 from Domaine de la Romanée Conti.

As for the Champagnes, we recommend the Pommery Brut Rosé 1934, Pol Roger 1934 and Roederer 1934.
