The Official Classification of Bordeaux wines of 1855 determined a wine classification that can not be changed. This ranking distinguishes the red wines, all from the Médoc (except for Château Haut Brion), and the white wines. All the great white wines are sweet wines from the Sauternes and Barsac appellations. Their ranking is in the following 3 levels
